Town Recycling and Trash Disposal

The Town of Hiles provides two locations for the disposal of household trash and for the recycling of certain household items. One center is located in the southern part of the town on the west side of County Highway S south of Highway 32. The other center is in the northern part of the town on the west side of Crossover Road just south of Butternut Lake Road.

Both transfer stations are open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. In addition to these hours, from the first of May through September, both stations are also open on Sunday during the same hours. Both centers are staffed during open hours with an attendant who can assist you and answer questions that you may have. The attendant may ask to see your transfer station permit that is issued to property owners by the Town Treasurer. All town residents were issued updated permits in December, 2001. If you require a new permit please contact Town Treasurer Judy Burkey.

The dumpsters are intended the disposal of normal household trash and garbage in plastic bags. The recycle containers may be used for authorized materials only. Please see the chart below provided by Waste Management Inc. for the listing of items that may be placed into these containers.  A container is provided in the summer for the disposal of scrap metal. These containers are for pure metal only - no fabric, wood, etc.

Use of the transfer stations other than open hours in not authorized and the Town may fine those abusing the facilities up to $200 per occurrence.
